Other eating disorders

Technically speaking, there are only a small number of 'official' eating disorders. OSFED (Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders) provides a generic place to cover a variety of disordered eating behaviours that do not conform to the diagnostic criteria for Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa or Binge Eating Disorder.

They are terms that are heard increasingly in the media and the following offers some explanation.

There are a number of other disorders that are often considered to be related in some way to eating disorders. They are usually conditions in their own right, with their own diagnostic criteria. They are similar in that they possess a symptomatic component in common with symptoms existing with an eating disorder.
