Current Volunteer Opportunities

SWEDA is always looking for volunteers to help us with the work that we do.

If you have skills that you think might be useful, then please get in touch. Volunteering is a great way to make a meaningful contribution to a cause that matters to you. Its also a great way to meet people and develop new skills.

There are many ways to get involved with SWEDA – from helping with outreach and marketing activities, volunteer counselling placements, helping maintain our buildings, PR opportunities – talk to us to discuss further. A great way to meet like-minded people, build up experience, gain confidence and get involved. Training is provided, expenses are paid and there is plenty of opportunity for learning throughout.

A number of our SWEDA Volunteers have personal experience of an eating disorder, either as a sufferer or a carer, and would like to use this experience to help others. This can be helpful, but is not a pre requisite - all that's needed is a desire to learn and support others in a non-judgmental and user led environment.

Counsellors on Placement

We are excited to announce that we will be recruiting up to ten Counsellors on Placement: five based at our head office in Shepton Mallet and five at our new premises in Bristol.

SWEDA Counsellors provide an essential part of the SWEDA service. As a Counsellor on Placement, volunteering with SWEDA enables you to develop your counselling skills and personal counselling style under the guidance of the Clinical Lead and with the support of the SWEDA team. The SWEDA approach is integrative, providing you with opportunities to utilise and implement a variety of theoretical models. SWEDA believes in treating service users as individuals. Therefore, our Counsellors develop proficiency in assessing and delivering the most appropriate interventions for each client.
If you are interested in the placement, please read through the recruitment pack (see Download below), which explains the procedure and costings involved.
To apply, please download the application form below and return to [email protected] by midday on the 22nd August.

Fundraising Volunteer

SWEDA has worked hard to build a positive fundraising activity and to embed and foster a fundraising culture across the organisation.  We need an enthusiastic, motivated volunteer to help us with our future planning and events and to help us expand and diversify this area of income.

Please see the download below for more information.

“I can’t emphasise enough what a massive part SWEDA have played in my journey to finding myself again. They are an incredible charity and are brilliant at their job. Over the past two years I have really started to understand myself and I have addressed issues that I had hid away in the past and with my counsellor’s amazing listening, non-judgmental and supportive skills I have been able to take back control of myself and rationally look at my emotions in day to day life."
