Volunteer

SWEDA is always looking for volunteers to help us with the work that we do.

If you have skills that you think might be useful, then please get in touch. Volunteering is a great way to make a meaningful contribution to a cause that matters to you. Its also a great way to meet people and develop new skills.

There are many ways to get involved with SWEDA – from helping with outreach and marketing activities, volunteer counselling placements, helping maintain our buildings, PR opportunities – talk to us to discuss further. A great way to meet like-minded people, build up experience, gain confidence and get involved. Training is provided, expenses are paid and there is plenty of opportunity for learning throughout.

A number of our SWEDA Volunteers have personal experience of an eating disorder, either as a sufferer or a carer, and would like to use this experience to help others. This can be helpful, but is not a pre requisite - all that's needed is a desire to learn and support others in a non-judgmental and user led environment.

Email [email protected] or call 01749 34 33 44 for more information.

“I saw a SWEDA support worker on campus at university. I had been struggling with binge eating disorder and compulsive exercise for about ten years. The SWEDA support worker was able to help me look at my relationship with food and my body in a different way. I have learned to be kinder to myself and they taught me techniques which helped me to slow down my thinking. Now I can go out and have fun without worrying all the time.”
