Community Support Workers

SALARY - £24,000 FTE

Tackling eating disorders as early as possible is critical to stop the condition becoming entrenched which seriously impacts on health, wellbeing and recovery.

In 2019 SWEDA formed an alliance called “Open Mental Health” with other local voluntary organisations and the NHS.  We are working in partnership to ensure that residents of Somerset get the support they need, when they need it.  Our shared ambition is to ensure that people living with mental health problems get the right support at the right time. Working together, we support people to live a full life, by enabling access to specialist mental health services, housing support, debt and employment advice, volunteering opportunities, community activities and physical exercise, to help support and improve their wellbeing and quality of life.

As part of this work we are now looking to expand our services into the community and are looking for a team of experienced Community Support Workers.  Covering one of three areas in Somerset (South Somerset, Sedgemoor and West Somerset & Taunton), the Community Support Worker will be the first point of contact for potential clients seeking help.  You will provide one-off support and guidance sessions to people affected by an eating disorder, including both sufferers and carers and will signpost or refer them on to other support at SWEDA such as counselling to start or continue their road to recovery.

You will also be responsible for developing relationships with other key partners such as other mental health charities, colleges and GP’s and providing them with the necessary skills to better support their clients/students affected by an eating disorder, this will include delivery of training to professionals and young people.

The successful candidate will have experience in supporting vulnerable people in a one-to-one setting and will possess excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

Full training in Eating Disorders will be provided.

“I can’t emphasise enough what a massive part SWEDA have played in my journey to finding myself again. They are an incredible charity and are brilliant at their job. Over the past two years I have really started to understand myself and I have addressed issues that I had hid away in the past and with my counsellor’s amazing listening, non-judgmental and supportive skills I have been able to take back control of myself and rationally look at my emotions in day to day life."
