SWEDA offers support to students aged 16 and above in four key colleges across Somerset:

One-to-one sessions can be booked through student support or directly with our Youth and Community Support Worker, who will be college on the days stated above and generally between 9am - 1.30pm. Come and find us where our display is positioned which will be at varying points around the college. We are here for information and support, feel free to come and have a chat.

Our Youth and Community Support Worker can also offer tutorials on eating disorders, body dsymorphia, the impact of social media, body shaming and body acceptance to different student groups throughout the year in the colleges.

For Colleges

We appreciate the challenges faced by schools in offering a range of social education during PHSE and health promotion events. SWEDA can provide a range of bespoke, holistic responses, to meet the students needs.

For example, sessions could include:

'What is an Eating Disorder and where can I get support?'

'Exploring the relationship between Social Media, self esteem and eating disorders'

'Challenging the role of advertising and the media in relation to body image'

Professional development support for school and college staff is also available, to ensure they feel confident in their abilities to respond to the needs of students affected by eating disorders. Quotes are available on request for these services.

“I saw a SWEDA support worker on campus at university. I had been struggling with binge eating disorder and compulsive exercise for about ten years. The SWEDA support worker was able to help me look at my relationship with food and my body in a different way. I have learned to be kinder to myself and they taught me techniques which helped me to slow down my thinking. Now I can go out and have fun without worrying all the time.”
