Crooked

I stare through my pain
As the world outside
Moves on.

The lone rook asleep
In the giant beech.

I am that rook
Surveying my domain.

Silently observing all
That comes before me.

Head under wing I am
Safe in my shelter
Motionless.

My presence unnoticed by
Dumb, blind eyes.

Those who fail to
Notice or acknowledge
My existence.

Only those who look
Hard enough can reach
Me.

I remain on my bough
Solitary, silent, alone.
