Anorexia

When pains and troubles plague the soul
and frantic fears assail the mind
or grievous loss depletes our whole,
a shelter from life's storms we find.

As any soul who flees from fear
or reels away from phantom sin,
we seek a place of comfort near,
we find our sanctuary within.

Our humbled bodies play a womb
protects the foetal heart and mind,
and yet inside a crumbling tomb
still precious peace at last we find.

And those without decry our deeds,
oppose our choice of flight from fear,
claim more than us to know our needs,
would rend away our comfort dear.

But those without know not our plight,
fail to deem from what we flee,
have yet to fear beyond their might,
our want for comfort fail to see.
It numbs our pain and calms our thought,
gives peace at last, fulfils our needs,
provides the Sanctuary we sought,
along less rocky paths it leads.

And yet we know that where we dwell
is not a place where long we'll lie.
Blessed realm yet living hell,
a Haven, yet a place to die.

But coming forth, the storm to face
from which, before, in fear we fled
and yielding up our hard won grace
is something of surpassing dread.

So force us not from where we hide,
our fears to face, alone to stand.
Be friends and allies by our side;
bring us forth led by the hand.

We can yet conquer what we fear
and cease to run, but turn and face,
but those to whom we still are dear
must help us see a better place.
