ANOREXIA and PREGNANCY study
Have you been PREGNANT and experienced ANOREXIA (or Anorexia-type disordered
eating)? If so, researchers at Oxford University would be keen to hear
from you.
Who is carrying out the research?
The research is being carried out by Zoe Mason, a Trainee Clinical Psychologist
from Oxford University. The study is supervised by Dr Myra Cooper and Dr
Hannah Turner, who are both Clinical Psychologists and specialist eating
disorder researchers.
What is the study about?
There is very little research into the pregnancies of women who have had (or
who currently have) Anorexia, and the little research which does exist is
all to do with ‘facts and figures’. This study is different – it
aims to find out from women with a history of Anorexia or Anorexia-type problems
about their experiences of pregnancy and the impact it had on them psychologically,
in their own words.
What does the study involve?
Taking part in the study will involve:
- Completing two short questionnaires
- Meeting with the researcher for a single, hour-long interview at
a location of your choice, convenient to you
Why should I take part?
It is hoped the results of this study will offer a valuable insight into the
pregnancy experience of women with a history of Anorexia, and will help psychologists
to understand (and offer help to) women like you. It is also hoped that the
results will help guide antenatal care and treatment for women with past
(or current) Anorexia.
Are there any restrictions on who can take part in the research?
Yes. We are looking for women who have restricted their eating at some point
in the past (including having had Anorexia or Eating Disorder Not Otherwise
Specified [EDNOS]). Also, to take part you must:
- Have a child aged 5 years or younger
- Be over 18 years old
- Speak fluent English
What should
I do if I’d like to talk to the researcher about possibly
taking part, or if I’d like more information?
If you would like to talk to someone about possibly taking part, or would like
some more information, please contact Zoe Mason, either by phone, email or
post.
