Self-Help Web Sites for Eating Disorders: Online Survey

I am an Honors Student at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. We are conducting a series of studies on how helpful self-help Web sites are to users. We are interested in why people go online and what components of online resources (chat, discussion, information) people find most helpful. This research will help design effective self-help Web resources.

We are also interested in the relationship between offline and online social support. Some early research indicated that people go online if they perceive no other sense of support and other, more current, research indicates that people who have good social support are more likely to be online.

We are researching user's perceptions of helpfulness of different types of self-help Web sites. Our on-line questionnaire investigates who uses different types of self-help Web sites, whether users of these Web sites perceive the sites to be trustworthy and useful sources of social support, and how these factors relate to social support off-line. The questionnaire will take 15 - 20 minutes to complete and a summary of the results will be posted on this Web site this summer. You must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

If you would like to learn more about the research and consent to complete the questionnaire, please click on this link:
